Assam: Islamic Cleric Arrested For Allegedly Raping 7-Year-Old Girl In Silchar

Guwahati: A 43-year-old Maulavi (Islamic religious cleric) from Silchar was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl student, the official said on Thursday.
The incident took place on October 29, which came to light the next day after the minor girl’s mother filed a complaint with the police, officially added.
The girl described the experience when her mother inquired about her condition the next day after spotting their daughter in a traumatized condition, officially stated.
A case was registered against the cleric under sections 447, 376 AB, and 354 of the Indian Penal Code along with section 6 of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) act, officially said.
