Toll gate taxes to be hiked from 12 o'clock to night

New Delhi: The travel expenses of the people of the country will increase from 12 o'clock tonight. For those travelling on special national highways, the burden of excessive expenditure will fall today. Reason? The Project Implementation Unit (PIU) of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to increase the toll tax on expressways and national highways from 12 pm tonight.

It is learnt that preparations are underway to increase the tax rate at toll gates by 5 to 10 per cent from April 1. In other words, driving on national highways and expressways will be expensive from 12 pm tonight.
At present toll tax is being collected at the rate of Rs 2.19 per km on the expressway. It will now be increased by 10 per cent. The new tax rate is likely to come into effect from April 1 after approval from the ministry of road and transport.
