Tezpur: The Assam Higher Secondary Principals’ Forum held its state-level extended executive meeting on Sunday at Arya Vidyapeeth HS & Multipurpose School, Guwahati, raising alarm over growing academic challenges in Assam’s higher secondary institutions. Presided over by Forum President Dr. Kanak Chandra Bordoloi, the meeting highlighted the acute shortage of regular principals across the state, forcing schools to operate under acting heads or school inspectors, severely affecting academic standards. General Secretary Samsuddin Ahmed elaborated on the forum’s objectives, while vice-president Sharifa Ara Ahmed welcomed the advisors and guests. The Forum expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of official recognition by the state government despite the heavy responsibilities shouldered by principals. The meeting resolved to organize a state-level academic workshop in July or on October 14 in Kamrup district, inviting Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu. A six-member subcommittee was formed to draft proposals for the 8th Pay Commission. The Forum’s biennial conference will be held in December, accompanied by a publication of its journal Siksha Prahari. For organizational strengthening, two assistant general secretaries were nominated, and all district units were directed to convene meetings this month to enhance grassroots coordination.
