RCUN-NER Coordination Committee meeting at Goalpara College
Goalpara: The Resource Centre of the United Nations – North Eastern Region (RCUN-NER) held a pivotal Coordination Committee meeting at Goalpara College on 19th May (Friday). The event witnessed active participation from academic leaders from different Universities and Colleges from Assam and civil society stakeholders dedicated to promoting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the North East. The meeting was chaired by the Principal of Goalpara College, Dr. Subhash Barman, who welcomed delegates from various institutions and emphasized the vital role of educational institutions in fostering peace, sustainability, and global citizenship. The meeting was attended by Dr. Aswini Sarma - Executive Director of Resource Centre for UN -NER, Dr. Jayanta Deka - Hon'ble Chancellor of the Assam Girijananda Choudhary University, Guwahati , Mr. Pradip Goswami - Coordinator of RCUN -NER for zone 1, Dr. Kamala Kanta Borah - Principal of Mangaldoi College, Dr.Debajit Dutta - State Coordinator of RCUN -NER for zone 4, Dr. Siddhinath Sarma - Chief Coordinator of RCUN -NER for zone 2, Mrs. Nita Moni Nath - Coordinator of RCUN -NER for West Goalpara College, Ms. Rashmi Hazarika - Coordinator of RCUN -NER for Goalpara College, Special invitees , faculties of the esteemed College were present on the occasion. During the session, the committee reviewed the progress of existing programs, including awareness campaigns on climate change, gender equality, and youth empowerment. Special focus was given to developing localized outreach models that address unique socio-cultural challenges faced by communities in Assam and the broader North Eastern region.Dr. Aswini Sarma, Executive Director of RCUN-NER, highlighted the importance of collaboration between colleges and grassroots organizations. “Our aim is to empower students and educators as changemakers who align local actions with global goals,” he said. The outcome of the meeting was to implement the UN / UNESCO activities in the colleges & Universities.The meeting concluded with a strategic roadmap for the upcoming year, including expanding the Resource Centre’s presence in more colleges across the NER, and launching multilingual resources on UN objectives. The Coordination Committee expressed gratitude to Goalpara College for hosting the meeting and reaffirmed its commitment to building a more informed, inclusive, and sustainable North East India. At the end Vote of Thanks was given by Kavita Basumatary, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Goalpara College.
