Guwahati: ‘Prastawana – The Preamble’, an upcoming Assamese feature film, is set to spark conversation with its powerful depiction of how political forces influence the student community and educational system in India. Inspired by the renowned literary work ‘Yatra’ by celebrated writer Dilip Borah, the film offers a bold commentary on the nation’s socio-political landscape. Co-directed by Dilip Borah and Manik Roy, the film draws on Borah’s compelling narrative style and Roy’s extensive experience in Assam’s amateur theatre scene. The duo aims to present an unflinching look at the entrapment of students within political structures, while emphasizing the need to uphold the core democratic values enshrined in the Indian Constitution—justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity. ‘Prastawana’ seeks to educate and awaken youth to the importance of civic awareness and vigilance in safeguarding democracy. The film’s screenplay and story were penned by Borah himself, staying faithful to the essence of the original literary source. Featuring veteran actor Tapan Das in the lead role, the film also stars Paarvee Baruah, Hillol Kumar Pathak, Debajit Mazumdar, and others. The film’s technical crew includes renowned editor A. Sreekar Prasad, cinematographer Bitul Das, sound designer Arnab Bora, and art director Gulok Saha. With music composed by Satya Ranjan Bhuyan and Hiteswar Ray, ‘Prastawana – The Preamble’ promises to deliver a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant cinematic experience, bridging literature and film in contemporary Assamese culture.
