Sitaare Zameen Par; Opens with ₹20 Crore Worldwide
Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan made his long-awaited comeback to cinemas after a three-year hiatus with Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual successor to his 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. The film, which explores themes of inclusion and perseverance through the lens of sports, opened to positive audience reactions but recorded a modest start at the box office. According to early estimates by Sacnilk, the film earned ₹10.7 crore on its opening day in India. With a domestic gross of ₹12.85 crore and ₹7.15 crore from overseas markets, the worldwide total stood at approximately ₹20 crore. While the figures are respectable, they fall short of expectations for an Aamir Khan release. His previous film, Laal Singh Chaddha, despite its underwhelming performance, opened slightly higher with ₹11.70 crore in India and ₹23.85 crore globally on day one. Nonetheless, Sitaare Zameen Par managed to outperform Kesari Chapter 2, starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, which opened to ₹15 crore globally. It still trails behind big openers like Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 (₹25.70 crore) and Salman Khan’s Sikandar (₹26 crore). Directed by RS Prasanna, the sports comedy-drama features Aamir Khan as a basketball coach guiding a team of neurodivergent children to a national tournament. The film stars Genelia D’Souza and introduces ten fresh talents, including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishnan Varma, Vedant Sharmaa, and Simran Mangeshkar, with strong support from Dolly Ahluwalia, Gurpal Singh, and Brijendra Kala.
