Meghalaya’s Cherrapunji Gin Wins Double Gold at 2025 SIP Awards in California
Shillong: Cherrapunji Eastern Craft Gin, produced in the highlands of Meghalaya, has earned the prestigious Double Gold Medal at the 2025 SIP Awards in California, USA — a rare honour awarded to fewer than 2% of over 1,200 global entries.
Crafted by Raincheck Earth Co., this premium Indian gin is distilled using rainwater harvested from Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth. Developed in collaboration with a Dutch master distiller, it features native botanicals like Khasi mandarin, Himalayan juniper, and smoked cardamom, capturing the essence of the region’s rich biodiversity.
The SIP (Spirits International Prestige) Awards is the only major international competition judged entirely by consumers through double-blind tastings. Over 300 non-industry judges participated in the 2025 edition, evaluating entries solely on taste, aroma, and experience.
Mayukh Hazarika, founder of Raincheck Earth Co., said the award is especially meaningful because it reflects the genuine opinions of everyday consumers. “This recognition affirms our belief that authenticity and craft can resonate across cultures,” he said.
The win places Meghalaya and Northeast India on the global map of craft spirits and demonstrates the potential of sustainably made, locally inspired beverages to compete internationally.
