Assam shines at the 18th GFI National Grappling Championship 2025

Guwahati: Assam made a strong mark at the 18th GFI National Grappling Championship 2025 held in Nashik, Maharashtra from May 30 to June 1, clinching three bronze medals and showcasing the state’s growing presence in the national grappling scene. Organized by the Grappling Federation of India (GFI), the event featured top grapplers from across the country in an intense display of skill and competition. Assam’s medal tally included Afrid Rahman, who secured bronze in the 58kg GI and No GI categories, Debajit Sarma with bronze in the 92kg No GI category, and Mrinmoy Saikia, who earned bronze in the 66kg No GI category. Nur Alom Sarkar, General Secretary of the Grappling Association of Assam and Joint Secretary of GFI, congratulated the athletes and officials for their dedication and hard work, calling it a proud moment for the state. He stated that the players had shown true fighting spirit and brought honor to Assam, adding that their achievements would serve as inspiration for future grapplers. The Grappling Association of Assam reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the sport and aims to build on this success in upcoming national and international tournaments.
