Barpeta District Badminton Association formed

Barpeta: A new Barpeta District Badminton Association has been officially formed to strengthen and promote badminton in the region. The association was constituted during a general meeting held at the Barpeta Press Club, attended by sports organisers, veteran players, and local community members. The meeting was chaired by Kamal Chandra Das and featured the presence of notable personalities including veteran badminton player Rabindra Nath Das and BJP District President Mahendra Das. Hillol Jyoti Talukdar, addressing the gathering, outlined the association’s mission to expand badminton’s reach in Barpeta and improve sports infrastructure, with special mention of the newly constructed indoor stadium at Ramrai. Mahendra Das highlighted the importance of sports in shaping disciplined, healthy, and responsible youth. Referring to state initiatives like ‘Khel Maharan’, he urged for a strong sports culture in an age increasingly dominated by technology. Following discussions, a full executive body was elected. Anil Kumar Das was named President, Kamal Chandra Das as Working President, and Hillol Jyoti Talukdar as General Secretary. Manoj Kumar Bayan was elected as Senior Vice President, while Biplab Kumar Das took charge as Treasurer. Additional officials, including Vice Presidents and Secretaries, were also appointed to ensure effective functioning. An advisory board comprising the Barpeta District Commissioner, the Senior Superintendent of Police, and other respected figures from the sports and civil society sectors will guide the association’s activities. The meeting began with a solemn tribute to the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash and in memory of Amaljit Das, a promising young sportsman from Barpeta. The newly formed association is expected to play a vital role in nurturing local talent and elevating the status of badminton in Barpeta.
