Shillong: The mysterious disappearance of an Indore tourist couple has taken a tragic turn after the body of Raja Raghuvanshi was recovered from a deep gorge near the Weisawdong parking lot, eight days after the pair went missing during a trek. The victim was identified by a tattoo in a challenging drone-assisted operation conducted Monday morning. Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, remains missing as rescue teams continue their search. Authorities have registered a murder case and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident. Family members have demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, alleging foul play and possible robbery, citing missing belongings including Raja’s phone, ring, and chain. “There are no CCTV cameras where the body was found. We cannot accuse anyone directly, but we suspect abduction. We urge the Chief Minister to hand over the case to the CBI,” said Vipin Raghuvanshi, the victim’s brother. Items recovered from the site include a smartwatch, mobile fragments, and a woman’s shirt, suggesting the couple may have been together during the incident. The post-mortem will be conducted at NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, to determine the exact cause of death. Meghalaya Police have not ruled out foul play, and the case has raised serious concerns about tourist safety in the region.
