Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government has formally urged the Centre to fulfil earlier commitments made regarding the expansion of air connectivity in the state, as the new terminal building at Donyi Polo Airport nears inauguration.

State Civil Aviation Minister Balo Raja, in a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, reminded the Centre of assurances given during meetings held in New Delhi in March and May this year. A copy of the letter was shared with the media on Thursday.

“You had kindly assured us of introducing new flight services to additional southern cities and also of commencing daily services between Itanagar and Delhi in parallel with the inauguration of the airport’s new terminal building,” Raja stated.

He emphasized that the state government had already communicated these developments to the public, leading to high expectations for enhanced air connectivity.

The terminal at Donyi Polo Airport in Hollongi is expected to be inaugurated in the first week of August. Raja requested urgent action on the Centre’s assurances in the larger public interest.

Highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s long-standing aspirations for better connectivity, Raja noted that the dream began taking shape with the airport’s inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 18, 2022.

He also mentioned that the state will host the 3rd Northeast Aviation Summit on September 5, 2025, in Itanagar and sought continued support from the Ministry to boost aviation infrastructure in the region.
