Indian Army Honours Padma Shri Yanung Jamoh Lego

Itanagar: In a moving tribute at Sigar Military Station, the Indian Army honoured Padma Shri Yanung Jamoh Lego for her exceptional contributions to traditional herbal medicine and community health. The ceremony celebrated Lego’s lifelong dedication to reviving and preserving India’s ancient healing traditions.
Born on July 9, 1963, in Sika Tode village, East Siang district, Lego was inspired by her father, a renowned folk healer. After 15 years of immersive learning, she began her formal practice in 1995, treating over 10,000 patients suffering from critical illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, and epilepsy, often when modern medicine failed to provide relief.
In 2009, she founded the Indigenous Herbal Heritage, an initiative that has educated over 1 lakh people and facilitated the planting of 5,000 medicinal plants across Arunachal Pradesh, ensuring the survival of traditional knowledge.
Her achievements have earned her multiple national accolades including the SRISTI Samman (2007), Paramparika Vaidya Ratna (2013), Arunachal State Award (2019), and the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour.
During the Army’s felicitation, Lego shared insights on holistic living, Ayurvedic home remedies, and disease prevention, leaving a profound impression on the troops. Speaking to the media, she said, “I am happy that my work is being appreciated. Patients come from across India and abroad. I’ll continue healing and training the younger generation.”
Her legacy has received national recognition, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi spotlighting her contributions in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, calling her a torchbearer of India’s indigenous medical heritage.
