Tawang launches infrastructure push with focus on border telecom connectivity

Tawang: In a major developmental initiative, the Tawang district administration has launched a comprehensive infrastructure drive, prioritising telecom connectivity in strategically critical border areas. Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo on Tuesday chaired high-level meetings with representatives from BSNL, Reliance Jio, and Airtel, along with Indian Army officials, to expedite the installation of communication towers and improve network access in remote and underserved locations. The initiative aims to overcome persistent connectivity issues that have hampered both civilian life and security operations in this international border district. As part of the effort, existing communication cables will be relocated to safer zones and integrated with the township beautification project, discussed in detail by Executive Engineer Sang Phuntso and District Information Technology Officer Tenzin Phuntsok. In parallel, coordination meetings were held to plan for upcoming national events such as International Yoga Day 2025 and the Dharti Abha Jan Bhagidari Abhiyaan. Personnel from the Indian Army, ITBP, SSB, and local welfare committees committed to ensuring community-wide participation. The administration also turned its focus to tourism, with Additional Deputy Commissioner Lungla Tashi Dhondup, and Assistant Commissioners Tsering Chedon and Deewan Mara, strategising ways to empower local artisans and protect cultural heritage while boosting sustainable tourism. District Tourism Officer Tsering Deki stressed the importance of departmental synergy to fully tap Tawang’s tourism potential. The administration’s multi-pronged approach is expected to not only address infrastructure gaps but also enhance economic and cultural resilience in Arunachal Pradesh’s remote frontier.
