Gold and Silver Worth Over Rs 15 Lakh seized from Night Bus

Bajali: Acting on a tip-off, Bhawanipur Police carried out a successful operation late last night on National Highway 27, leading to the recovery of a substantial amount of gold and silver from a night bus named Sanjeevani (registration number AR 20A 4601).
The bus, traveling from Barpeta Road to Kakopathar in Tinsukia, was intercepted near Bhawanipur Anchalik College. During a thorough inspection, police officers seized 2 kilograms of silver and 140 grams of gold from a passenger, identified as Firoz Ali, who had reportedly boarded the vehicle at Howly.
According to police estimates, the recovered silver is valued at approximately Rs 1.8 lakh, while the gold is worth around Rs 14 lakh in the current market.
Firoz Ali has been taken into custody, and authorities are conducting further interrogation to determine the source of the precious metals and their intended destination. Police officials indicated that additional arrests and recoveries may follow as the investigation continues.
The operation highlights the vigilance of Bhawanipur Police in curbing illegal transportation of valuable commodities across the region.
