100th event of Sandhya Mel by Udayan Yuvak Sangha held

North Lakhimpur: Udayan Yuvak Sangha, a leading socio-cultural institution located at Garehaga under Azad area of Lakhimpur district, completed the 100th episode of its regular monthly programme "Sandhya Mel" held recently. In view of this, the 100th event of the programme was held in a befitting manner at the auditorium of the Udayan Yuvak Sangha in the presence of more than 200 people. Udayan Yuvak Sangha launched the Sandhya Mel initiative in 2012 and the events of the programme have been held either in the residence of any person as per invitation or in the auditorium of Udayan Yuvak Sangha. The two-hour-long program focused on literature, culture, festivals and some crucial social issues. This informal event, which has no designated speaker, allows all participants to participate in discussions on pre-scheduled topics. The 100th event, which marked its 12th anniversary, was inaugurated by 100 dignitaries of the Garehaga area by lighting 100 ceremonial lamps. The programme began with the observation of one minute's silence praying for the departed souls of those persons who already took part in the Sandhya Mel event in the last twelve years. Then the female members of the Udayan Yuvak Sangha performed the title song of the institution while the welcome address was delivered by the president Parama Phukan. Indira Dutta and her companions presented a Borgeet. Afterward, Dr. Bubul Kumar Saikia, Principal of Lakhimpur Telahi Kamalabaria College, released the souvenir edited by Indrajit Kakati under the presidentship of Parama Phukan and prepared it on the occasion of the 100th event of the Sandhya Mel. In his address, Dr. Saikia praised the efforts of Udayan Yuvak Sangha and urged the youths not to be busy with mobile phones but to move forward with the practice of arts and culture by ensuring their intellectual development. He urged the Udayan Yuvak Sangha to hold effective events by covering the youths at least twice a year if possible. He also promised to donate books worth Rs. 5,000 for the library of Udayan Yuvak Sangha. Tagar Dutta, Suren Hazarika, Nagen Barua, Konkeshwar Deka, Annie Dutta, Madhav Phukan, Rajiv Dutta and Parag Dutta expressed their views in the topic of discussion of the event which was moderated by Anuj Kumar Bhuyan. Suren Hazarika proposed Udayan Yuvak Sangha to hold one of the next events of the Sandhya Mel at his residence and promised to donate books worth Rs. 5,000 to the library of Udayan Yuvak Sangha. Annie Dutta also promised to donate books for the library. Then an 'Alekhya' (a lyrical drama) composed by Anuj Kumar Bhuyan covering the topics discussed in the past Sandhya Mel events was presented with the roles played by Sangeeta Dutta, Ruby Dutta, Mausumi Neog Dutta, Munlima Dutta, Indira Dutta and Nanimadhav Dutta. Dipti Bhuyan and Satyamohan Dutta recited poems while Deben Dutta and Priyanuj Koch presented melodious songs. Udayan Yuvak Sangha founder president Purnananda Dutta and founder secretary Tirthanath Saikia were feted in the same event. Basanta Das and Durlabh Nath, two representatives of Lakhimpur Lok Sabha MP Pradan Baruah, were present at the function and promised to provide grants for the infrastructure development of Udayan Yuvak Sangha. The event concluded with a vote of thanks extended by secretary Indrajit Kakati and presentation of 'Asom Sangeet'.
