Dhula20-Year-Old Arrested for Sharing Provocative Reels
: A 20-year-old youth from Lotakhat village under Dhula Police Station in Assam’s Darrang district has been arrested for allegedly creating and circulating provocative videos on social media opposing the ongoing eviction drives in the state. The accused, identified as Mahmud Alam, reportedly produced a series of Reels that criticized the government's eviction process and allegedly contained derogatory remarks targeting the state administration and Chief Minister. The videos, laced with satirical undertones, appeared to call for resistance against the eviction actions, particularly those involving individuals labelled as doubtful citizens. Police sources stated that the content of the Reels was inflammatory and in breach of cyber regulations. "We found the videos capable of inciting unrest and promoting misinformation. Appropriate action was taken after a thorough review," an official confirmed. Following his arrest, Alam was presented before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution while using social media and warned against sharing or producing content that could disrupt public order or challenge lawful administrative actions. The incident underscores the growing scrutiny of online content amid the state’s intensified drive against encroachment and illegal settlements.
