Bilasipara: A massive protest rally was held at the Chirakuta Eidgah field under Bilasipara subdivision, demanding proper rehabilitation and adequate compensation for evicted families from Chirakuta, Charuwabakhra Jungle Block, Santoshpur, and adjoining areas. The rally, joined by thousands of affected people and members of various organizations, soon turned tense when protesters abruptly moved onto the national highway after the rally concluded.

Chanting slogans and carrying placards, the demonstrators blocked the highway, drawing immediate police attention. The agitation was led by nine MLAs of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), who joined the public outcry for justice for the displaced families. As the highway blockade disrupted traffic and created a volatile atmosphere, police detained the nine MLAs involved in leading the protest and took them to Chapar Police Station.

The detained lawmakers were Hafiz Basir Ahmed Qasimi, Aminul Islam, Karim Uddin Barbhuiya, Nazrul Hoque, Nizanur Rahman, Samsul Huda, Hafiz Rafiqul Islam, Ashraful Hussain, and Mujibur Rahman. The detentions, however, were brief, and all the MLAs were released later.

The protest has intensified the political discourse surrounding eviction and displacement in the region, with demands for a more humane approach to rehabilitation gaining momentum. Tensions remain high as affected communities continue to seek justice and support from the authorities.
