Nagaon: In a significant development, Aminul Islam, AIUDF MLA of Dhing constituency, has been re-arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) by Nagaon police today. The AIUDF MLA who was lodged in Nagaon central jail after arrest on April 24, was initially granted bail by the court today. However, before he could step out, the police apprehended him under NSA. Islam made controversial as well as anti-national remarks regarding the Pahalgam incident in Kashmir a fortnight before. On April 24, Nagaon police arrested Islam from his Dhing residence, for his inflammatory comments. Following his arrest, a case was registered against him at Nagaon Police Station. He was later sent to Nagaon jail on April 29 after the police custody period ended. Superintendent of Police, Nagaon, Swapnanil Deka, confirmed the re-arrest of MLA Aminul Islam under NSA. This development casts uncertainty over Islam's potential release, leaving his future prospects uncertain. It's pertinent to mention that the controversy surrounding Islam's comments on the Pahalgam incident sparked widespread debate. His alleged support for terrorist activities without condemning them drew severe criticism. With this re-arrest, the authorities have sent a strong message about handling cases involving potential threats to national security.
