Asomiya Bhasha Swahid Shishir Nag remembered at Nagaon

Nagaon: The Puranigudam Unit of Asomiya Bhasha Swahid Smriti Raksha Somitee, and Kolong Kola Kendra jointly paid tributes to Shishir Nag, a martyr of the language movement of the 1960s, at the Kolong Kola Kendra premises in Puranigudam yesterday. The event began with the garlanding of Shishir Nag's portrait, led by Prafulla Kalita, President of Puranigudam Unit of the Asomiya Bhasha Swahid Smriti Raksha Somitee. During the event, along with paying tributes to Shishir Nag, the martyrs of 1960, the unit also remembered the martyrs of 1972. Several dignitaries, including Ashwini Sarma, Vice-President of Kolong Kola Kendra, Montul Kumar Sarma, Purnananda Barik, Dipali Bora, Chittaranjan Bora, Rajiv Goswami, and Tilak Kumar Gayan, participated in the event. In the commemoration programme held later, Prafulla Kalita spoke about the sacrifices made by the martyrs of the Assamese language movement and emphasized the need to respect and preserve the Assamese language. Ashwini Sarma, in his presidential address, paid tribute to the martyrs and highlighted the importance of language in uniting a community. The event was attended by several notable individuals from the area, as well as students studying at Kolong Kola Kendra, stated in a press release here.
