Assam Pushes Back 18 Illegal Bangladeshi Nationals

Guwahati: As part of its intensified crackdown on illegal immigration, the Assam government on July 5 deported 18 Bangladeshi nationals who were found living in the state without valid documents. The deportations took place from the Cachar and Sribhumi districts, according to official sources. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the move on social media, referring to it as a “special gesture of PUSHBACK.” In a post on X, he wrote, “Oh look who's going back to their home? In Assam, we welcome guests with open arms, but those trying to illegally prolong their stay are treated with the special gesture of PUSHBACK.” He further stated that the 18 individuals were deported in the early hours of July 5 as part of the state’s ongoing effort to tackle illegal immigration. The Assam Police have been carrying out a statewide drive targeting undocumented immigrants, especially those from Bangladesh. CM Sarma recently revealed that nearly 330 illegal immigrants have been sent back over the past month, and more deportations are expected in the coming days. The pushback initiative reflects Assam's firm stance on unauthorized residency, as the government continues its efforts to safeguard demographic integrity and border security.
