Guwahati:The Assam Police have arrested another individual for allegedly expressing support for Pakistan on social media in the aftermath of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. With this, the number of arrests linked to pro-Pakistan sentiments has risen to nine across the state.Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the latest development through his official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the latest arrest occurred on the night of April 25 in the Sribhumi district. The accused, identified as Md Mustak Ahmed alias Sahel, is a resident of Saykut village under Karimganj Police Station. He was taken into custody for allegedly posting "Pakistan Zindabad" on Facebook.This arrest follows a series of detentions made by Assam Police as part of an intensified crackdown against individuals promoting or defending Pakistan’s position online, especially in the wake of the Pahalgam incident that claimed multiple lives.Earlier arrests included individuals from various districts across Assam. Among them are Md Jabir Hussain from Hailakandi; Md A.K. Bahauddin and Md Javed Mazumder from Silchar; Md Mahahar Mia alias Md Mujihirul Islam from Morigaon; Md Aminul Islam from Nagaon; Md Sahil Ali from Sivasagar; Md Jarif Ali from Barpeta; and Anil Bania, the District Secretary of the Satra Mukti Sangram Parishad, from Biswanath.Authorities have reiterated that any public expression of sympathy towards Pakistan, especially in the context of terrorism, will be dealt with firmly. CM Sarma has emphasized zero tolerance for actions that may compromise national sentiment or pose a threat to public order.The state police remain vigilant and are monitoring online platforms for content that could be interpreted as supportive of anti-national activities. The crackdown reflects the state government’s firm stance on ensuring that Assam remains united in its condemnation of terrorism and aligned with national interests.Investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are possible as authorities continue their probe into social media content related to the Pahalgam attack.
