Guwahati:In a strategic step toward enhancing global employment opportunities for local youth, Assam is set to establish a dedicated Japanese Language Centre. The initiative, announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, follows a day of high-level diplomatic discussions with a delegation from ASEAN ONE, led by Toshiaki Nishikawa. The proposed centre aims to equip young professionals from Assam with the language proficiency and cultural knowledge necessary to secure short-term job opportunities in Japan. This move aligns with the state government’s broader objective of fostering long-term educational and economic partnerships with Japan, particularly in skill development and workforce exchange.Chief Minister Sarma emphasized that this initiative is a vital part of Assam's roadmap to strengthen ties with Japan and create new career pathways for its youth. "Our collaboration with Japan is expanding, and we see language and cultural training as a bridge to further opportunities,” he noted. The announcement comes on the heels of a visit from a high-ranking Japanese delegation headed by Nukaga Fukushiro, Speaker of the House of Representatives in Japan. This marks the fourth such visit from senior Japanese officials since February, highlighting the intensifying diplomatic and developmental collaboration between Assam and Japan.During their visit, the delegation also toured the site of the upcoming Tata semiconductor manufacturing plant, which is part of a series of infrastructure and industrial projects in Assam supported by Japanese investment.Reflecting on the genesis of this collaboration, CM Sarma recalled his February visit to Japan, where he extended a formal invitation to Speaker Fukushiro during a dinner meeting. "Today, he has returned the gesture with a 50-member delegation, which is a strong signal of mutual interest and growing cooperation,” Sarma said.He also reaffirmed Assam's commitment to attracting more Japanese investment through consistent engagement and by creating an enabling environment for bilateral growth. The upcoming Japanese Language Centre is expected to serve as a cornerstone in this evolving partnership, enabling Assamese youth to pursue international careers while fostering deeper cultural and economic ties with Japan.
