BJP Stages Protest in Sribhumi Over Attack on CM's Convoy at Golaghat

Sribhumi: Tensions escalated in Sribhumi on Tuesday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) district unit launched a massive protest following a recent bottle-throwing incident targeting the convoy of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The incident has triggered sharp political reactions, with a senior minister even suggesting a possible Kashmir connection behind the act. The protest, spearheaded by the Sribhumi District BJP, included a blockade of the National Highway near New Karimganj Railway Station, attracting heavy police deployment and public attention. Slogans condemning the attack and demanding a high-level probe echoed through the protest site. Prominent leaders such as Minister Krishnendu Paul, former Rajya Sabha MP Mission Ranjan Das, and former district BJP president Subrata Bhattacharya were present, joined by hundreds of party workers and supporters. Addressing the media, Minister Paul did not hold back. “There may be a Kashmir connection behind this incident. We demand a thorough investigation to uncover the anti-national forces targeting our Chief Minister,” he said. He also lashed out at the Congress, claiming, “The Congress party will never return to power in Assam — not in 2026, not ever. Their desperation is pushing them towards irrational actions.” Paul further condemned the recent incident in Golaghat, alleging that the opposition is resorting to disruptive tactics due to waning public support. Though the protest concluded peacefully, it has ignited a fresh political storm, with the BJP intensifying its accusations while the Congress remains silent, yet to issue an official statement.
