Cachar rolls out grand plans to mark 79th Independence day

Silchar: With tricolour hues already shimmering in the air, the Cachar district administration has swung into action to ensure a befitting celebration of the nation’s 79th Independence Day. In a meticulously planned preparatory meeting held on Monday at the new conference hall of DC'S office, District Commissioner, Mridul Yadav,IAS set the tone for the festivities, calling upon every citizen to take part in the national festival “with full enthusiasm and pride.” Chaired by DC Mridul Yadav, the meeting witnessed the participation of a cross-section of officials from civil administration to police, military and paramilitary, along with representatives of civil society and the business community all uniting under the tricolour to finalise the itinerary. In his welcome address, the District Commissioner reviewed progress on the arrangements and directed all departments to complete their preparations by August 13. After a detailed discussion, the Police Parade Ground in Silchar was chosen as the ceremonial venue where the VVIP flag hoisting and parade will take place. According to the finalized schedule, patriotic songs will begin wafting through the airwaves from 5:30 AM to 6:30 PM, courtesy of the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone. At 7:00 AM, citizens are encouraged to hoist the national flag at private homes and establishments, followed by flag hoisting at government offices and educational institutions at 7:45 AM, where the National Anthem will be sung collectively. Floral tributes will be offered at Gandhi Bagh, first to the Father of the Nation at 8:35 AM, then at the Swahid Tarpan memorial at 8:45 AM. The ceremonial flag hoisting by a VVIP is slated for 9:00 AM, followed by a combined parade of CRPF, Assam Police, Home Guards, 6th AP Battalion, NCC, Scouts and Guides. The day will continue with a vibrant cultural programme showcasing the district’s ethnic mosaic at the Police Parade Ground, and an exhibition football match between the District Bar Association and District Sports Association at 4:00 PM at the DSA Ground. As dusk falls, statues, rotaries, government buildings, and even private residences will be illuminated from 6:00 PM onwards, bathing Silchar in patriotic light.
