Barpeta: In celebration of the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC), two Cooperative Literacy Camps were held in Bamunpara, Kharadhara, and Barbang Choukhuty villages of Bajali district. The initiative, spearheaded by NABARD Bajali and Nalbari Rural Development Association (NRDA), aimed to educate and empower newly formed Multipurpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (mPACS). Organised under the nationwide campaign ‘Sahkar Se Samriddhi’ by the Ministry of Cooperation and supported by NABARD, the camps focused on strengthening grassroots-level cooperatives. Four new mPACS have been formed in the district as part of the initiative. The District Development Manager of NABARD, Bajali, Ankita Modhukalya, addressed participants on the importance of cooperative development and elaborated on the roles and responsibilities of mPACS members. She highlighted NABARD’s various support schemes and urged active and transparent participation in cooperative management. Representatives from the Assam Cooperative Apex Bank, Pathsala branch, shared insights into banking and credit services available to mPACS. Officials from the District Industries and Commerce Centre (DICC) introduced central schemes such as PMEGP and PMFME for rural entrepreneurship.
