Domestic Violence: Woman Killed by Husband in Tinsukia

Tinsukia: A shocking case of domestic violence emerged from Assam’s Tinsukia district on Thursday evening, where a woman was allegedly killed by her husband during a heated altercation. The incident took place around 5 PM near a nursing home on Azad Road in Doomdooma. According to sources, the accused, Kishore Tanti—a former employee of the electricity department—got into an argument with his second wife, Manisha Moran (50). In a fit of rage, Tanti allegedly struck Moran on the head with a stone slab, fatally injuring her. He fled the scene immediately. Local residents quickly informed police, who arrived and summoned a 108 ambulance. Moran was rushed to Doomdooma FRU, where doctors declared her dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem. A manhunt is underway to trace the absconding accused. The deceased is survived by two daughters. This tragedy comes amid a concerning rise in domestic violence cases across Assam. In Cachar, Sanjoy Re was arrested for attempting to kill his wife by attacking her and pushing her into a bushfire. In Ulubari, Guwahati, Rubul Sharma allegedly killed his wife with an iron rod and later surrendered. Earlier this month in Sonitpur, a 62-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances following frequent domestic disputes. These incidents highlight an urgent need for stronger interventions against domestic abuse in the state.
