Tezpur: An RO Drinking Water Purification System was inaugurated at Tezpur central jail today in a bid to ensure clean and safe drinking water for the inmates and staff of the jail facilitated by Tezpur Lions Club. The programme commenced with a warm welcome by one of it’s member Pranita Medhi Changkakoti which was followed by the felicitation of all the dignitaries from the Lions Club by the jail authorities, followed by the felicitation of jail officers by the Lions Club as a gesture of mutual appreciation and collaboration. Among others jailor Nayama Ahmed a handful of Lions Club members, donors, and supporters were present at the event, showcasing a strong sense of community involvement and support.


Addressing the gathering, president of the club, Rajiv Jain, spoke on the welfare activities executed in the society for the good cause of the society. “This is also a part of such activities which has been materialized inside the jail in a bid to provide a drop of safe drinking water to the jail inmates as well as it’s staff.” He said adding after comprehending the need of the pure water facility inside the jail with the help of friends and donors connected with Lions Club they started gathering funds to execute the facility. He further explained that the project includes a RO purifier system with a 1,000-litre high-height iron structured stand, four dispensing taps, and a granite basin. Additionally, they made efforts to cement and concrete the approach to ensure better accessibility. He extended special thanks to the main contributors, Jai Narayan Bhati and Prem Jhawar, whose generous support made the project successful.


Addressing the inmates, Lion Dr. Satyajit Borah delivered an inspiring message, encouraging those who reached the jail due to mistakes in life to learn from their past and work towards a better future. He motivated the inmates to reflect on their actions and embrace positive change. Speaking on the occasion, Lalit Kumar Kothari, District Governor Elect, District 322D, expressed his appreciation for the collaborative efforts of the donors, jail authorities, and the dedicated team behind the project. He emphasized how the RO Water Purification System would have a significant impact on the health and well-being of the inmates.


Concluding the ceremony, the jail Superintendent sharing his thoughts, appreciated the initiative and the support extended by the Lions Club and the donors. He acknowledged the commitment of all involved in making this project a reality and highlighted the importance of providing basic amenities like clean drinking water within the jail premises.The jail inmates showcased their artistic talents through soulful songs and self-composed pieces, blending music with their own voices.
