First Global Assamese Conference 2026 to be held from Jan. 16

Guwahati: The First Global Assamese Conference, a pioneering initiative aimed at bringing together the global Assamese community, is scheduled to be held from January 16 to 18 at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati. This landmark convention marks the launch of the Global Assamese Engagement Initiative, envisioned as a unifying platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and meaningful contributions towards Assam’s progress. The three-day conference seeks to tap into the talent, passion, and resources of the Assamese diaspora to preserve the state’s cultural legacy and promote sustainable, inclusive development. Participants will engage in dynamic discussions, interactive workshops, and strategic planning sessions designed to generate actionable ideas across key areas such as history, environment, education, and innovation. The inaugural day will celebrate Assam’s diverse historical narrative, with scholars and cultural leaders shedding light on ancient civilisations, the Ahom era, and colonial transformations. The second day will focus on localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), involving policymakers, experts, and grassroots leaders to frame solutions addressing climate resilience, agriculture, and equitable growth. On the final day, the spotlight will shift to the global Assamese diaspora, highlighting their potential contributions in education, healthcare, and technology, and encouraging long-term partnerships. The event will also host the launch of the Global NRA Expert Database and present the ‘Community Recognition Award’ to individuals from the diaspora making a significant impact. With registrations open and nominations invited, the conference promises to be a transformative gathering of minds united for Assam’s future.
