Guwahati:After spending several months in judicial custody, Tarkik Borah (also known as Tapan Borah) and Bishal Phukan have been granted bail by the Gauhati High Court in connection with a financial fraud case linked to a trading scam. The decision, issued on Thursday by Justice Parthivjyoti Saikia, pertains to the final case registered against them at Barbaruah Police Station in Dibrugarh district. This ruling marks a major turning point in the long-running legal battle surrounding the alleged trading scam. The two accused had been incarcerated at Guwahati Central Jail amid serious allegations of involvement in fraudulent trading operations. While the court has cleared the way for their release, administrative holdups and the delay in issuing a copy of the bail order have postponed their actual discharge from custody.orah and Phukan had been implicated in a scam involving deceptive financial dealings that drew the attention of law enforcement in upper Assam. Their arrest and subsequent detention followed multiple complaints and a thorough investigation that led to the registration of several cases, the last of which has now been addressed through the High Court’s bail approval.Despite the relief for Borah and Phukan, the legal ordeal is far from over for all parties involved. Co-accused Sumi Bora remains behind bars, as her application for bail is still pending consideration by the court. Authorities have not yet confirmed a timeline for when her plea will be heard. The case has drawn significant public and media attention in Assam due to the scale of the alleged fraud and the profile of the accused. With the court’s latest decision, legal experts suggest the focus may now shift to the trial phase and the resolution of pending petitions. Meanwhile, the families of the accused await the completion of paperwork that will allow Borah and Phukan to walk free.
