Guwahati Police Nab Key PLA Operative Linked to Manipur Insurgency

Guwahati:In a major breakthrough against insurgent activities, Guwahati police arrested a wanted militant affiliated with the banned People's Liberation Army (PLA), known for its role in multiple armed incidents across Manipur. The arrest took place on April 19 and was the result of a joint effort by the Basistha Police and Gajraj Intelligence. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Mayanglambam Bobby Singh from Kakching district of Manipur, was apprehended while hiding in a hotel located in the busy Paltan Bazar area of Guwahati. Investigations have revealed that Singh had previously been staying at another hotel in Beharbari before shifting to Paltan Bazar in an apparent attempt to evade authorities.Singh is believed to have played a significant role in several insurgent operations carried out by the PLA in Manipur. Police sources say his movements were being closely tracked for some time before the final operation was executed. The arrest has been described as a significant development in ongoing efforts to crack down on insurgent networks operating both within and outside Manipur.Mrinal Deka, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), addressed the media on April 20 and confirmed Singh's detention. He stated that the militant is currently in police custody and is being interrogated. Deka also emphasized that Singh's capture could potentially lead to more arrests as the investigation unfolds.Authorities are now focused on uncovering Singh’s local connections and the extent of his involvement in recent PLA operations. His arrest may help shed light on how insurgent elements are seeking shelter and operating from cities like Guwahati, which are outside their traditional strongholds. The police have not disclosed the specifics of the charges against Singh but assured that legal proceedings will follow once the interrogation phase is complete. Security agencies remain on high alert, and further crackdowns are expected as intelligence continues to develop. This arrest marks a key milestone in Assam’s coordinated efforts to curb the spread of insurgent activity from neighboring states.
