Hemanta Sarma’s New Film “Omnipresent – A Story”

Guwahati: Assam-based journalist and filmmaker Hemanta Sarma is set to release his latest short film, “Omnipresent – A Story”, a thought-provoking narrative that explores the environmental and social consequences of plastic pollution. Known for his award-winning debut “To-Let”, Sarma once again steps behind the camera to tackle a subject both timely and relevant.
Produced under the Focus Media banner, the film is written, directed, and scripted by Sarma himself. What sets “Omnipresent – A Story” apart is its unique point of view — the entire story unfolds from the perspective of a plastic bag. As this seemingly mundane object drifts through a bustling city, it becomes a silent witness to human negligence, urban chaos, and the environmental toll of everyday carelessness.
“The plastic bag is everywhere, yet invisible. It sees everything but is seen by none. It reflects our habits, our disregard, and ultimately, our failure to take responsibility,” Sarma said, describing the metaphor at the heart of the film.
Shot across various locations in Guwahati, the film features cinematography by Gyan Gautam and assistant cinematographer Sirajul Ali. Editing is handled by Manas Kashyap, with lighting and set design by Sankar Dutta. The cast includes Dhruba Prasad Bora, Niharika Nath, Pranavi Mohanta, Dheeraj Das, and Garima Das, among others.
Currently in its final editing stages, the film is expected to complete the censor process within the month and will soon be submitted to national and international film festivals. Sarma’s latest project continues his mission to blend storytelling with social commentary, sparking dialogue around everyday issues that demand urgent attention.
