Huge Cache of Weapons, Explosives Recovered in Boko

Boko: In a major breakthrough, the Kamrup District and Metro Police recovered a large cache of illegal arms and explosives from an abandoned factory near the Saturday weekly market in Boko early Friday morning, sending shockwaves across the region. The operation, carried out following confidential intelligence inputs, led to the seizure of 142 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, a pistol with five bullets, a revolver with one bullet, four rounds of INSAS rifle ammunition, and a significant quantity of explosive materials. Speaking to the media late Thursday night, Superintendent of Police (In-Charge) Renu Kuntala Sital Kumar (RKS Kumar) confirmed the successful operation and announced the arrest of four individuals in connection with the case. The arrested persons include Pranab Mahanta, the alleged owner of the factory, along with Ketu Rabha, Shivajit Boro, and Amrit Ali. “All four accused were produced before the court on Friday. We are seeking a five-day police remand to continue the investigation and interrogate the suspects thoroughly,” SP RKS Kumar said. The discovery has raised serious concerns in the Boko area, with locals expressing alarm over the potential threats posed by the hidden arms. Police officials from Boko Police Station confirmed that a case (No. 224/2025) has been registered under multiple stringent laws, including the Arms Act, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act, and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have assured the public that a full-scale investigation is underway to trace the source of the weapons and identify any larger network involved in the illegal arms trade. Authorities are also examining whether the seized arms cache was intended for any subversive activity or terror-related operations.
