Gossaigaon: In a significant crackdown on timber smuggling, a team of police personnel from the Srirampur police outpost under the Gossaigaon sub-division seized a large consignment of illegal teak wood during a special operation based on a tip-off. The seized timber, valued at over ₹10 lakh, was being transported secretly in a six-wheeler truck. The truck, bearing registration number KA-50 A-3595, was heading towards West Bengal from Silchar. The illegal teak logs were cleverly hidden beneath household items to avoid detection. Acting on specific intelligence, Srirampur police intercepted the vehicle along National Highway 27 and conducted a thorough search, uncovering the hidden timber consignment. During the operation, police arrested the truck driver and his assistant. The arrested individuals have been identified as Krishna Babu and Raju Bhai. According to officials, the timber consignment was being transported without any valid permits or documentation. Police have launched a detailed investigation and are actively working to trace the broader network involved in the illegal timber trade. Further arrests are expected as the probe continues.
