International Olympic Day observed at Tezpur Polo Field

Tezpur: The International Olympic Day was observed with pomp and gaiety at the Polo field here on Monday. The event was organized by Assam Olympic Association in collaboration with Tezpur District Sports Association and marking the event a joint race was organized. In the programme, president of Assam Olympic Association, central Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, state sports minister Nandita Garlosa, Athlete, Arjun Hima Das, General Secretary, Assam Olympic Association, Lakhya Konwor, MP Ranjit Dutta, MLAs Lawrence Islary, Prithiraj Rabha along with officials of the Assam Olympic Association were present in the programme. Union Minister and President of the Assam Olympic Association Sarbananda Sonowal in his speech, only sports can build peace, unity, and fraternity across the world. He further stated that through dedication to education, culture, and sports, society can achieve progress, and through this, individuals can enhance their own personality as well as bring glory to the state and the nation. Sonowal also reiterated that the Narendra Modi-led government has given significant importance to sports, as a result of which the country has achieved considerable success in the international sports arena. On the other hand, athlete Hima Das urged parents to encourage their children to take an interest in sports. It is noteworthy that thousands of students, athletes, and others participated in the mass run, which was flagged off at 7 AM today by Assam Olympic Association President Sarbananda Sonowal, State Sports Minister Nandita Garlosa, and Hima Das. Earlier in his welcome address, President of Tezpur District sports association Rajen Barthakur spoke about the importance of the day and urged all concerned to give special focus on the sports as a means of better career. Following this, a panel discussion on sports-related injuries and anti-doping measures was also held at the Polo Field.
