Land Dispute Turns Violent in Gossaigaon, 18 Injured

Gossaigaon: A long-standing land dispute turned violent early Saturday morning in Hasrawbari No. 2, Gossaigaon, leaving at least 18 people injured, several of them critically. The clash involved men and women from both parties and has triggered heightened tensions in the area. The injured were initially treated at local health centres, with several later referred to Kokrajhar for specialized care due to the severity of their injuries. The conflict reportedly arose over a two-bigha plot of land at the centre of a prolonged ownership dispute. Locals allege that the land, claimed by Somesh Ali, had been under the occupation of Kamal Uddin’s family. Violence broke out when Ali’s family attempted to cultivate the land this morning, prompting an alleged attack by Kamal Uddin’s relatives using sharp weapons and sticks. Police responded swiftly to the scene and have launched an investigation. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further escalation. No arrests have been made as of now.
