Maitree Sangha voices concern over rising incidents against women

Tezpur: One of the most prominent women’s organisations of Tezpur Maitree Sangha conducted its biennial general meeting with a daylong colourful programme. The meeting chaired by the president of the Sangha Bhanumati Hazarika began with the presentation of its title song which was followed by the welcome address given by the joint secretary Kanchan Saikia. After the presentation of the annual report and audited financial report by Dr Krishna Sarma, auditors Jashoda Dutta and Mrinalini Bora provided their observations and feedback on the financial statements. During her speech Jashoda Dutta and senior adviser Parul Mahanta urged everyone to preserve the old traditions of Maitree Sangha and to continue their work in unity and harmony in the coming days. Member Minakshi Sharma presented a detailed account of the Sangha’s journey, from land allotment to the construction of its premises. Kalpana Kalita, Dr. Suchitra Devi, and Ranju Devi Bora shared their personal feelings and experiences about their association with Maitree Sangha. In her remarks, outgoing president Bhanumati Hazarika humbly apologize for any errors that might have occurred during her long tenure. Citing examples of unethical acts involving women in today’s society, she expressed deep concern over the increasing number of undesirable incidents involving women in society and emphasized that as women, they too have responsibilities toward building a better social fabric and urged Maitree Sangha members to be mindful and active in fulfilling them. During the meeting a new executive committee was formed for the upcoming term headed by Minakshi Sharma as president, Bhanumati Hazarika as Chief Advisor, Mrinalini Bora (Minu Bora) as vice president, Dr. Krishna Sharma and Kanchan Saikia as joint secretaries, Rita Gogoi and Ranju Devi Bora as assistant secretaries, Runuka Baruah as treasurer, Gitali Baruah and Mrinali Baruah as cultural secretaries , Parul Mahanta, Jashoda Dutta, Makhani Saikia, Nizara Bhuyan, and Kalpana Kalita as advisors. Kalpana Kalita, Meera Bora and Mrinali Barua enthralled the gathering with presentation of sonorous songs and dance. The meeting concluded on a high note, with senior advisors and members bringing life to the event through songs, speeches, and conversation.
