Dhubri: A meeting between land patta (title deed) holders and the district administration was held at F.A. Memorial High School in Alamganj. The government has completed preparations to carry out a major project under "Advantage Assam 2.0" in the highly populated Alamganj area, which falls under the Gauripur revenue circle of Dhubri district. The targeted areas include Alamganj Part 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, and Baghmara and nearby villages.

The project will require the acquisition of nearly 4,000 bighas of land. On Wednesday, a meeting was convened at F.A. Memorial High School in the presence of the Dhubri Deputy Commissioner, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and officials of the Gauripur revenue circle, to consult with patta-holding landowners. Several attendees expressed their unwillingness to vacate their homes and ancestral lands.

Meanwhile, the news of the impending eviction has left thousands of families in Alamganj under great distress. The Dhubri district unit of the Sadou Asom Goria Moriya Deshi Jatiya Parishad organized a public meeting in Alamganj to address the issue. At the meeting, strong opposition was voiced, with the group declaring that patta land would not be given up at any cost.

The administration has started demarcating the area for the proposed project, which covers approximately 4,000 bighas of land. Of this, around 900 bighas are patta land, and 2,200 bighas are reported to be government (khas) land.

Another meeting was held at Chitalkati in Alamganj under the leadership of the Sadou Asom Goria Moriya Deshi Jatiya Parishad's district unit. It was resolved that no land belonging to indigenous khilonjia (original inhabitants) and patta holders would be surrendered. The organization stated: “We have no objection if the government reclaims its own khas land or evicts settlers living illegally on government land, but we will not allow the destruction of indigenous and Deshi communities in Panbari and Alamganj regions.”
