Nagaon AASU protests over irrigation demands at Nagaon

Nagaon: The Sadou Nagaon Zila Chatra Sangstha, the district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU), organized a protest rally, demanding proper irrigation facilities for farmers in the state on Saturday. The protesters staged the protest in front of the Nagaon Irrigation Department office. During the stir, the agitators cited the current drought-like situation in the state, which has affected the sowing of sali paddy crops across the state. Despite having a dedicated Irrigation Department, the students' organization claims that the department has failed to provide adequate support to farmers. The protesters shouted various slogans and criticized the state government sharply. Several leaders of the students' organization including Mriganka Shekhar Bhardali Hazarika, Simanta Bora, Kankanjoyti Baruah and others participated in the stir on Saturday. Following the protest, the leaders of the students' organization submitted a memorandum to the District Commissioner, Nagaon, addressing the Chief Minister of Assam. The memorandum urged the Chief Minister to take immediate action to improve the Irrigation Department and provide adequate irrigation facilities to farmers.
