Nation Pays Tribute to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma with Delhi Road Naming and Memorial Ceremonies

New Delhi/Kokrajhar, April 30: The 35th death anniversary of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, revered as the Father of the Bodo people, was marked with heartfelt tributes across Assam and the national capital, underlining his enduring impact on Indian society and the Bodo community’s cultural and political identity.In a historic move reflecting national recognition of Bodofa’s legacy, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the “Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg” in Kailash Colony, New Delhi. The renamed road, which runs from A5 to A18, was accompanied by the unveiling of a 9-foot bronze statue of Brahma, symbolizing his pivotal role in advocating for Bodo rights, unity, and democratic values.The ceremonial event was organised by the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) at the Bodoland Guest House in Kailash Colony and drew prominent national and regional leaders. Notable attendees included Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BTR Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro, ABSU President Dipen Boro, Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, BTC Speaker Katiram Boro, and Bodo Sahitya Sabha President Dr. Surath Narzary.The day’s observances began with the ABSU flag being flown at half-mast by President Dipen Boro, followed by floral tributes from dignitaries including MP Joyanta Basumatary and other community representatives.Simultaneously, a major remembrance program was held at Bodofa’s resting place in Thulungapuri, Dotma, Kokrajhar. This joint effort by the ABSU, the Upendra Nath Brahma Trust, and the Assam Department of Culture included a flag ceremony led by ABSU Assistant Education Secretary Romeo K. Basumatary. Tributes were paid by Assam Minister Nandita Gorlosa, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Kalyan Chakravorty, BTC Deputy Chief Gobinda Basumatary, and other key figures.Additionally, the BTC Secretariat hosted a separate homage ceremony at Bodofa’s statue within the complex.Upendranath Brahma, who led the Bodo movement with a vision of peace, dignity, and social justice, continues to inspire generations. The dedication of a road and statue in Delhi marks a significant moment in bringing his legacy to national prominence.
