Guwahati: In a determined effort to enhance rail safety and infrastructure reliability, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) had launched a 10-day comprehensive safety drive from May 29 to June 7. The drive focused on the inspection of points and crossings across various divisions of NFR. General Manager Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, along with other senior railway officials, actively participated in the field inspections, emphasizing the zone’s top-level commitment towards track safety and operational excellence. The drive involved joint participation of officers from the Engineering and Signal & Telecommunication (S&T) departments. Teams carried out targeted inspections at randomly selected points and crossings, based on earlier safety drives and inspection findings. These efforts aimed to identify and rectify any deficiencies or irregularities on a priority basis, thereby strengthening the overall health of critical track infrastructure. A key aspect of the inspection also included the measurement of toe load of Elastic Rail Clip (ERC) fittings. These clips are crucial for securing rails to sleepers, and the correct toe load ensures they function effectively under dynamic loads. Toe load monitoring is vital for maintaining track geometry, reducing the risk of rail movement and preventing unprecedented incidents like derailments, making it a central parameter in track safety management. In view of the ongoing safety drive, the GM/NFR conducted a surprise inspection at Kamakhya railway station and depot, accompanied by other senior officials. During the visit, he closely examined the condition of points and crossings, with particular attention to the measurement of toe load of Elastic Rail Clips (ERCs). Emphasizing the heightened vulnerability of track components during the monsoon season, he urged all field staff and officials to adopt special maintenance practices and remain vigilant to ensure uninterrupted and safe train operations. All observations from the drive are being systematically recorded and monitored through a centralized digital platform, ensuring transparency and timely action. This safety initiative underscored NFR’s unwavering focus on preventive maintenance, technical precision and its proactive approach towards providing a safer railway network for both passengers and freight train operations.
