Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is making rapid progress in restoring the Lumding–Badarpur Hill Section, which was severely impacted by multiple landslides due to heavy rainfall. General Manager of NFR, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, visited the affected site to assess the ground situation, review progress, and boost the morale of field teams. He directed the deployment of maximum manpower and machinery to ensure early resumption of train services in this critical section. So far, 14,100 cubic meters of earth have been removed from hill slopes out of the targeted 20,000 cubic meters. From the track area, 2,850 cubic meters out of 3,000 have been cleared. Additionally, over 1,27,000 cubic meters of earth have been removed from nearby vulnerable areas. Drainage work is also underway, with 600 meters of kutcha drains under construction and 400 meters of existing drains already cleaned. Slope stabilization has been prioritized through jungle cutting over 12,000 square meters and protection of 1,200 square meters using geotextile. Despite the terrain and poor weather, teams equipped with dumpers and excavators are working tirelessly. In inaccessible zones, manual removal is being carried out. To ensure passenger safety, several trains have been cancelled or partially cancelled from June 26 to 29. Passengers are advised to follow official updates for the latest information on train services. The visit of the General Manager has greatly encouraged restoration teams as NFR pushes forward with urgency and dedication to restore normalcy.
