Tezpur: A pall of grief has descended upon Tezpur and its surrounding areas following the untimely demise of acting Vice Principal of Tezpur Government Higher Secondary School Nila Kanta Sarma at his brother’s residence in Guwahati on Sunday. He was 58. He had been suffering from diabetes for some years. Late Sarma was actively involved in educational and social spheres and renowned widely for his significant role in smooth conducting of the HSLC and other secondary-level examinations in Tezpur over the years. Born on 28 October 1966, Sarma was known for his dedication to the field of education. He had also been associated with the Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti and was involved in conducting its examinations in Tezpur. He had joined Tezpur Government Higher Secondary School as an Assistant Teacher on 23 September 1988 and was serving as the acting Vice-Principal at the time of his demise. His mortal remains were brought back to his residence at Usha Nagar, Tezpur, at around 1:30 AM. This morning, at 8:30 AM, his body was taken to his workplace Tezpur Government Higher Secondary School. Principal of the school, Manju Barhoi; retired teacher Hemanta Kishor Pathak; retired acting Principal Rinjumoni Neog Bora;Headmaster of Rashtrabhasha School, Bijoy Kandulana; Secretary of Tezpur District Secondary Teachers and Employees Association, Bhupen Bardoloi; Principal of Tezpur Collegiate Higher Secondary School, Robin Barua; all his colleagues and students of the school paid their last respects to his mortal remains. His final rites were performed at Daulguri Shantidham crematorium. Late Sarma is survived by his wife, son, three brothers, and two sisters-in-law. On the sudden demise of this devoted teacher, the President of the school’s management and development committee and Tezpur MLA Prithiraj Rabha, former Tezpur MLA Brindaban Goswami, Inspector of Schools of the Sonitpur district circle Prabhat Das, Usha Nagar Yuvak Sangha, and many other individuals and organizations have expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.
