Guwahati: Manu Goel, Additional Member (Environment and Housekeeping Management), Railway Board, conducted a comprehensive inspection of critical service infrastructure under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). Accompanied by Ajay Nandan, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer of NFR, the visit covered Kamakhya Depot and the BOOT Laundry facility in New Guwahati. At Kamakhya Depot, Goel reviewed the integrated cleaning and maintenance contract for the Brahmaputra Mail—an innovative model combining coach upkeep, bedroll distribution, onboard housekeeping (OBHS), and enroute repairs. This has contributed to a 25% decline in complaints on the Rail Madad portal. Goel also appreciated smart interventions like gravity cock tap fixes and supervisor training enhancements. He further inspected the AMI generation and testing facility that supplies over 1.45 lakh litres of bacterial culture for bio-toilet upkeep across NFR depots. Innovations such as pre-cooling AC coaches, UIC testing for cable faults, and saltwater load testing of power cars were highlighted for boosting reliability. The Rail Madad War Room at Kamakhya showcased 24x7 OBHS monitoring, real-time complaint resolution, and digital tools like biometric attendance and bedroll tracking. At the BOOT Laundry, modern machinery and quality control mechanisms are used to process over 13,000 bedrolls daily. Goel lauded the facility's efficiency and sustainability efforts. The visit underlines the Railway Board’s commitment to enhanced passenger service, cleanliness, and operational modernization in the NFR zone.
