Guwahati: In a major boost to rail connectivity in Assam’s hill districts, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced a new stoppage of the prestigious Dibrugarh–New Delhi–Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express (Train no. 12424/12423) at Diphu railway station, effective from July 17, 2025. The long-awaited development fulfills the demands of residents from Diphu and adjoining areas for enhanced connectivity to the national capital. To commemorate the occasion, a formal ceremony was held at Diphu station in the presence of Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, Member of Parliament Shri Amarsing Tisso, and senior officials from NFR. Both Up and Down Rajdhani Express trains will now halt for two minutes at Diphu station. This strategic move is expected to significantly improve mobility for the people of Karbi Anglong and nearby regions, offering them direct access to one of the country’s fastest and most premium train services. It also marks a step forward in bridging the gap between remote northeastern areas and key national destinations. The Rajdhani Express runs daily, covering over 2,400 kilometers in approximately 37 hours. The inclusion of Diphu as a stoppage underscores NFR’s ongoing efforts to expand rail access and support socio-economic development in underserved parts of the Northeast.
