Kokrajhar: In a swift and effective operation, Salakati Police in Assam’s Kokrajhar district successfully thwarted a case of cattle theft in the early hours of Saturday, June 28. The incident unfolded around 4 AM when miscreants reportedly broke into the cowshed of Aduri Bala Roy, a resident of Benibari village under Salakati Police Station, and made away with four cows in a vehicle.

The theft triggered panic in the village, prompting locals to immediately alert the police. Acting on the tip-off, Salakati Police launched a prompt pursuit operation. Within hours, the stolen cattle and the suspects were intercepted near Borsong village, adjacent to the national highway at Karigaon.

Two individuals — Khairul Haque, son of Ajahar Ali, and Sukur Ali, son of Jamal Ali — both residents of Kathaldik village in Bilasipara, Dhubri district, were apprehended. All four stolen cows were recovered in safe condition during the operation.

The police also seized a Bolero pickup van without registration plates, along with plastic and rubber ropes, sharp weapons, and other materials suspected to have been used in the theft. Investigators believe these tools were used to restrain and transport the animals.

Both accused are currently in police custody and are being interrogated for further information. Preliminary findings hint at the involvement of additional accomplices, with at least one more vehicle — possibly a white Alto car — believed to have been used by the fleeing suspects.

Police officials have confirmed that a manhunt is underway to trace and apprehend the remaining members of the cattle theft ring. The successful operation has been widely appreciated by local residents, who lauded the police for their timely action and vigilance.
