Senior journalist Utpal Baruah sworn in as Information Commissioner at Raj Bhavan

Tezpur: Utpal Baruah, a senior journalist of the state, former editor of Dainik Janambhumi and Saptahik Janambhumi, and author of several books, was sworn in on Monday evening at Raj Bhavan as the Information Commissioner of the Government of Assam in the presence of Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. It may be mentioned here that Utpal Baruah, the eldest son of the late social worker Dwijen Baruah and Kaberi Baruah of Milanpur Dekachuburi near Tezpur, began his journalistic career with the Mahajati and Sadiniya Sangbad news paper published from Tezpur. During his postgraduate studies in the Commerce (Accountancy) Department at Dibrugarh University, he became associated with Dainik Janambhumi as a journalist. Over time, he served as Deputy Editor, Associate Editor, News Editor, Executive Editor, and for a long period as Editor of the daily. Utpal Baruah, renowned as a political analyst of the state, has brought joy to the people of Tezpur through the news of his appointment. It is noteworthy that at today’s swearing-in ceremony, the Chief Information Commissioner and former Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, along with several top administrative officials and officers of the Assam Government, were present.
