Morigaon: In a significant step to strengthen nutrition and child welfare services in Assam, Water Resources and I&PR Minister Pijush Hazarika on Saturday distributed smartphones to Anganwadi workers and helpers under the POSHAN Abhiyaan scheme. The event, organized by the District Women and Child Welfare Department, was held at the Puthibharal Auditorium in Morigaon district. A total of 2,137 Anganwadi centers in Morigaon benefitted from the initiative. The smartphones are equipped with the POSHAN Tracker app, enabling real-time monitoring of nutrition indicators and improved service delivery for maternal and child health. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Hazarika said, “POSHAN Abhiyaan is a visionary programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to improve nutrition outcomes in women and children. Anganwadi workers are the backbone of this effort.” He highlighted that the Assam government, under Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, is fully committed to the mission’s success. The minister also announced retirement benefits of ₹4 lakh for Anganwadi workers and ₹2 lakh for helpers, a first in the state. He emphasized that the state is actively addressing long-pending issues of Anganwadi staff and constructing modern, child-friendly centers across Assam. Guardian Minister of Morigaon district, Kaushik Rai, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the impact of welfare schemes like Orunodoi, which provides direct financial assistance to women from low-income families. Both ministers praised the dedication of Anganwadi staff and noted that the smartphones will enhance efficiency, ensure timely data collection, and improve service outreach. Hazarika added that Assam has seen notable progress under CM Sarma, including over 1.5 lakh government jobs provided in the last four years through transparent recruitment.
