Summer nature workshop titled ‘Nature Detective 2025’ held

Guwahati: Aaranyak, a leading biodiversity conservation organisation, successfully organised its summer nature workshop titled ‘Nature Detective 2025’ from July 22 to 25 in Guwahati. Held under its Student Engagement Learning Programme, the workshop aimed to ignite curiosity and scientific thinking among young participants while fostering a deep appreciation for nature. The event witnessed the participation of over 50 students, researchers, and nature enthusiasts. A highlight of the workshop was an inspiring session by noted forensic scientist Dr. Padmapani, who shared insights into the applications of forensic science in wildlife crime investigation. Dr. Padmapani, the only person from Northeast India with a PhD in forensic science, also underscored the importance of empathy, compassion, and responsibility in shaping young minds. Participants engaged in hands-on STEM-based activities such as “Whose Track Is That?”, “Plant Evidence Lab”, and “Mystery at Nature Scene – Solving Eco-Crimes”, which introduced them to wildlife forensics and ecological investigation methods. The workshop concluded with an educational visit to the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, where students explored nature trails and received certificates of participation. Supported by the Mobius Foundation, the workshop was coordinated by Aaranyak’s Environment Education and Capacity Building Division, led by Jayanta Kumar Pathak, with a dedicated team of young professionals and volunteers.
