Tamulpur: In a significant step to raise awareness against drug and substance abuse, the Tamulpur district administration has announced a state-level half-marathon titled “Run for Happiness”, scheduled to take place on June 29. District Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty made the announcement during a press conference held at the DC Office on Thursday. The 21-kilometre race will kick off at 6 AM from Mela Chowk bus stop in Darranga and is being organised in collaboration with Assam Police, SM Group, Smile Asia, and other supporting organisations. “Drugs and substance abuse have become a major challenge for today’s society. This marathon is being organised as a public awareness initiative to fight against it,” said DC Chakravarty. The event is open to both male and female participants, offering ten prizes with a total cash reward of ₹1 lakh. Over 100 runners from various parts of Assam have already registered via the official online portal. Recognised by the Assam Athletics Association, the marathon also promotes youth engagement and physical fitness. The Deputy Commissioner urged students from schools and colleges to participate in large numbers and make the campaign a resounding success.
