Dhubri: A wave of tension swept through Dhubri town on Saturday following disturbing allegations that cow meat was found within the premises of the Bajrangbali (Hanuman) temple located in Ward No. 3. The incident sparked widespread outrage among local Hindu devotees, triggering protests, road blockades, and sporadic acts of agitation across parts of the town. According to preliminary reports, miscreants allegedly placed the severed head of a cow inside the temple compound, an act that immediately incited anger and disbelief within the local community. In response, devotees and residents quickly assembled at the scene, chanting slogans and blocking the main road adjacent to the temple. Protestors also lit tires on fire and demanded swift justice, vowing not to allow the cow remains to be removed until the perpetrators were identified and arrested. Tensions escalated further as police personnel, already deployed in the area, encountered resistance while trying to recover the remains from the temple premises. A full-scale investigation has since been launched, with senior officials — including Dhubri Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police — rushing to the site to assess the situation and appeal for calm. Authorities have assured that forensic testing will be conducted to verify the nature of the recovered materials. "Strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty of trying to incite communal unrest," stated an official, while urging the public to refrain from spreading or reacting to rumours. A heavy police presence remains in place in and around the area to maintain order. As of the time of reporting, no arrests had been made. The administration has appealed for restraint, emphasizing the need for communal harmony and cooperation to ensure that justice is delivered swiftly and fairly.
